Coaching & Hakomi

Hakomi Method of Self-Discovery

Hakomi Therapy integrates the wisdom of the body, psyche, and spirit in addressing current challenges and experiences, and in discovering what’s needed to experience more freedom, ease, and fulfillment in life.

In mindfulness, you will be supported in listening to the signals of your body and psyche as trailheads inward, like tracking upstream to better understand what is happening downstream. The approach is one of experiential healing and self-discovery that honors the innate wisdom within to direct the healing process, and is aligned for anyone seeking to radically transform their experience of who and what they are, and what is possible in this life.

Please note that this work is not and should not replace psychotherapy or mental health counseling from a licensed care provider. I am happy to provide referrals should you be seeking therapeutic services.

WHAT IS HAKOMI THERAPY?

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” – Carl Jung

Hakomi is a method of assisted self-discovery that helps uncover unconscious beliefs and habits that operate behind the scenes and influence many aspects of life. It is a mindfulness-based and body-oriented approach that is grounded in neuroscience research, attachment theory, and the application of mindfulness to healing.

In Hakomi, we bring attention to the present moment and track what’s happening in real time: Is there a tight sensation in your chest? A repeated gesture? What happens when you slow something down? What arises in response to a statement that I offer? These inquires allow the self system to respond (with sensations, memories, words, imagery, etc.), pointing towards deeper psychological material that is not typically accessible through conversation alone.

Hakomi is based on the Eastern principle of non-violence and is done in a gentle, loving, and curious environment, with an orientation towards nourishment and compassion. With space and safety, the more vulnerable aspects can emerge, as well as the possibility to receive the missing experiences needed for healing and wholeness.

Why MINDFULNESS and an EXPANDED STATE approach?

I have found in my own experience – and in my work with clients over the years – that deep healing can happen through states of expanded awareness, whether in meditation, breathwork, shamanic journeying, or psychedelic-assisted therapy. There is profound resource available within, and like an old school radio, we can adjust the dial to receive the signals not typically available in ordinary states of consciousness.

Through the state of mindfulness you will be supported to listen and inquire more deeply within, creating the possibility to access trailheads that were not visible from an intellectual (and more limited) point of view.

As a practitioner with deep experience and capacity to navigate the subtle dimensions of experience, you will be skillfully guided and supported in exploring more deeply within.

Why embodiment and a somatic approach?

Healing is an embodied experience. While understanding plays a role, the body, nervous system, and brain are wired by past experience and rational thought will not influence a nervous system (and younger parts) that respond reflexively. To create the possibility for a different experience in life, we need to tend to the body and provide any missing experiences of safety, support, and connection. We can release burdens of the past to become more available to the gifts of the present, and to open to new possibilities for the future.

In our work together, you will be supported in regulating your nervous system for immediate relief and support, as well as cultivating resources for ongoing self-care. We will also explore the core “programming” of early experiences that wrote the code for how you experience the world, so that it can be seen, supported, and healed.

Hakomi sessions with Tai are like medicine for the soul! Tai’s gentle guidance, intuitive insights, and just-right questions lead me on an inner journey, where I can explore old patterns of thinking and complex emotions in order to bring greater awareness and deeper understanding to difficult situations and feelings. This process has brought me a deep sense of relief and peace that I can turn to during times of stress, discomfort, or upset. After every session, I feel more alive, energetic, and connected to who I really am. I am deeply grateful for Tai’s empathetic and caring approach and am excited for the growth and healing future sessions will bring.

A skilled & Caring guide:

I have been immersed in the world of healing and spirituality for the past 20 years – a long and winding path that emerged from my own experience with chronic pain (severe headaches) and depression.

As a healing guide, I bring the embodied wisdom of that journey to support deep and transformational healing, and quickly get to the heart of challenges in their life. I work from the bottom up (trauma resolution, nervous system regulation, embodied presence) and top down (expanded state insights, new perspective, spiritual dimensions of experience) to support integrated, transformational healing.

My work is influenced by broad exposure across many modalities and traditions, including yoga (subtle body energetics and breath), core shamanism, somatics (including trauma & Polyvagal theory), transpersonal psychology (including the more mystical aspects of experience and spirituality), Internal Family Systems, and Hakomi Therapy.

I am a Certified Hakomi Therapist (CHT) through the Seattle Hakomi Education Network, a Certified Experienced Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) and Continuing Education Provider through Yoga Alliance (YACEP), and have completed extensive training in Shamanic Healing with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. I am also an experienced Breathwork Facilitator and offer breathwork facilitator training and certification programs.

My presence has been described as gentle, powerful, intuitive, and safe, offering a strong and supportive space to explore the deepest terrain of experience. More information about my approach and background is available here.

Tai is intuitive and deeply caring about her clients. Her work helped me move through some deep issues easily and in a short amount of time. I highly recommend Tai to anyone seeking perspective on current issues in their lives.

Tai’s presence is calming and comfortable. Something about her just makes you feel like you are in good hands and I felt completely safe with her. Words can’t describe, but her gifts are special and my experience was profound.

FAQ:

  • Sessions generally begin with a few minutes of mindfulness meditation to transition into the space, with space following to share what’s arising in your experience. I will suggest some experiments and inquiries in mindfulness to help you explore and study your experience more deeply, paying attention to body sensations, emotional mind states, non-verbal gestures and indicators, memories that surface, inner narratives and voices, etc.

The space is gentle and nourishing with no agenda to “fix” or solve anything, but rather to – with curiosity, compassion, and kindness – bring awareness to that within that is seeking to be uncovered, seen, heard, and understood. Often when we meet our experience in this way, change happens.

  • There is no required frequency for our work together. Just one Hakomi Therapy session can be profoundly supportive, healing, and illuminating, and on-going work will allow us to build a relational container that supports deeper inner work and discovery.

Many of my clients like to meet once every 2-4 weeks, allowing time for integration. For those navigating more intense periods of experience or change, weekly meetings can be beneficial.

I generally recommend scheduling one initial session to experience the work and space together, and from there, you can discern what frequency feels right for you.

  • Hakomi Therapy is beautifully effective in both formats. As a deeply intuitive facilitator, it's very comfortable for me to feel into the energetics of experience remotely.

For those in the Seattle area, I highly recommend in-person work together, as I find we can go even deeper into the subtle realms of experience, and (optional) therapeutic touch can be offered as it supports you and your experience.

  • Payment is due at the time of booking, and can be made online via credit card or PayPal. You can also Venmo @swordandlotus.

Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled with 24-hour notice by email.

These sessions are not covered by insurance.
